MANAGER, COMPLIANCE AND EDUCATION (FULL TIME)
The Canadian Beef Check-Off Agency (the Agency) administers the Canadian Beef Cattle Check-Off, a mandatory levy collected on cattle sales throughout Canada to fund research, marketing and promotion activities on behalf of the entire industry. It is collected from cattle producers when they market their cattle by provincial organizations, using their existing collection systems involving auction markets, order buyers, brand inspectors and others who handle cattle sales. The Agency also administers the beef import levy imposed on the imports of beef cattle, beef and beef products into Canada.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Manager, Compliance and Education is a full-time position that will deliver a strategy to reduce check-off slippage and uncollected levies, and increase remittance accuracy. The Manager will also deliver the Agency’s strategy to educate stakeholders on the process and regulatory framework informing check-off and import levy collection. The Agency’s head office is located in Calgary, AB, but this role is flexible and remote locations will be considered for the right candidate. Duties involved will include, but not be limited to:
- Identifying areas that require action to improve compliance for check-off and import levy collection and remittance
- Analyzing a variety of data to determine compliance and locate inconsistencies for further review
- Conducting inspections to further identify and rectify regulatory non-compliance
- Educating stakeholders on efficient collection and remittance of check-off and import levy, while maintaining the integrity of the collection mechanism
- Creating sound controls for check-off and import remittance and collection to maintain integrity in the collection system
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Post-secondary degree in agriculture, agribusiness or related discipline
- Additional certificates in compliance and inspection and other related fields are preferred
- 5+ years experience in interpreting government regulations, regulatory compliance and financial analysis
- Beef industry experience preferred; experience in other commodities is an asset
- Proven experience in development of multi-stakeholder training programs
- Strong integrity and professional ethics
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently or in various team settings
- Hold a valid drivers license and passport
